First off, I love the social commentary in this movie. It’s relevant and makes you question the real horrors that lie. I even wish that was explored and developed more. It would have made the story better and added more punches. The acting was overall good and the cinematography was good. There were a few tense moments and the whole movie was beautiful (minus the last CGI bee face shot). That’s all I liked about it though. It was very lacking in the horror elements and SPOILER (kind of) Anthony being the baby from the first movie was so spelled out for you that I got it in the first 10 minutes. Was hoping the dad who jumped out of the window was Anthony from the first movie (haunted by visions or something) and they were trying to fake us out. But nope. Also there were many plot holes in the movie that didn’t make sense to me. I wish they would have committed more to the story and “rules” rather than trying to make the audience infer as it seems to contradict the first movie. In the end when he says something like they will say I spilled innocent blood but it’s not true? Huh, bc I am pretty sure he sliced up some kids in this movie lol. I don’t know I was just very disappointed and wish there was more. Anthony had a compelling story until he sat there and did nothing in the last 1/4 of the movie after being fairly active for most of the movie. Also SPOILER his transition into Candyman was awful to me. I wish they would have set him up like Helen in the first movie but they weren’t even bothered with that. Also there was so much potential to have Candyman go viral on social media and it have the movie ending that way. Also wish the OG Candyman would have actually been in the movie and not shown up for only 6 seconds. Overall disappointing and would wait until you can stream it for free.
