Awesome movie! Unique take on “catching a killer”… I would say it’s similar in vibe to Seven, Zodiac, and is somewhat disturbing.
The cinematography was phenomenal. We are shown fireworks, dark ominous fields, and huge bright set pieces that immerse you into this world. And the POV shots puts you right in the detectives shoes.
The acting was great - especially from the female lead and the detective.
The script was fantastic - every line had a meaning, no wasted dialogue. The character development felt real to me..
The protagonist is still broken by the end, and not respected from many - but she comes a long way and her trauma helps solve the case.
What could’ve been better (spoiler) - the killer in some ways is humanized. But that’s what connects the protagonist and him. It’s not terrible but I thought it could’ve been better.
And to anyone saying it has a political agenda is simply wrong. In the real world there are agendas, sketchy things go on in the background, and people are discriminated against for their mental health or sexuality.
That’s just real and the movie intentionally shines a light on the inner workings of the department.
