I have seen this movie in Lucknow when I joined the Bank services in 1985. Excellent movie. Dilip Kumar is my all time favourite.In spite of being a South Indian Vaijayanti mala had a extraordinary performance of an innocent village belle. Salil Choudhary 's music specially the Mujra sung by late Mubarak begum is evergreen and immortal. All the songs are superb .No such film has been made on reincarnation. All the living artists of this movie ( most have passed away ) may kindly be blessed by the Almighty to be in good health and peace of mind. Sorry grateful to the creator Mr Bimal Roy

A masterpiece movie could never be remade. After watching it more than 20 times I feel what efforts had Guru Dutt taken to create this evergreen masterpiece movie. Meena Kumari has put on the clothings of chhoti Bahu in such a way that no heroine to this date could have done it.The Bengali version of this novel was a trash. I have fallen in love with the Meena Kumari sahib Biwi....so deeply that after searching inthe networks I went to Calcutta and visited to shooting spot of the zamindar kothi the Gyne palace in danyakuria near Taki

I have never seen this movie. Didn't get any chance to watch it. I was born long after this movie. My mother being a music lover planted in me the melodies of the golden period. Specially two songs of this movie तीर खाते जायेंगे आंसू बहाते जायेंगे and तस्वीर बनाता हूं तेरी ख़ून-ए-जिगर से are evergreen to this date

All the actors , the sets of 19th centuries Bengal ,the costumes every detail are matchless. Bimal Roy Rajinder Singh Vedi S D Berman created the real Devdas of Sharat Chandra Chatterjee. Vaijayanti mala Dilip were born for their roles in this movie. I have never seen nor do I want to see Vanshali's new version of this movie. The Indian film industry is proud to have two lead actors of Devdas (1955) with us till today. May they live a healthy and peaceful life. Hats off to Dilip Kumar and vaijayanti mala ji
