Our whole family are Disney purists and we couldnt help but wonder what was going through the producers head when this was made. We couldnt work out if it was a stage show trying to be a movie or a movie being made because they had a few songs to sing and a big budget for CGI. Emily Blunt was atrocious all the way. Her acting was forced and hard to swallow and made us gag with every word. The only good thing about her acting was when she stopped talking and sang. Lin-Manuel did a passable job and carried the show for the most part. Ben Whishaw & Emily Mortimer both did a sound job, but in the end they were eminently forgettable. Pixie Davies out shone them all. However it was enchanting to see some of the original cast in the show; however misplaced. The CGI was completely overdone and had us wondering if they were attempting to present Mary Poppins as a witch/magician. But my daughter suggested she was a crack dealer dosing up the kids each day so they had psychedelic hallucinations... which made more sense. But the end scene cut it for us, as it was a poor rendition of a previously good idea. "Lets go fly a kite" was such a family oriented concept in the original and the balloon scene at the end of this poor second fiddle was ridiculous to say the least. We all felt like we wasted 2h10m of our lives. Pamela Lyndon Travers was probably turning in her grave.
