Shallow portraits of Priscilla and Elvis made it difficult to care about either of them or to mourn the demise of their slowly disintegrating marriage. Priscilla remained such an unknowable, sphinxlike mystery throughout that her painfully slow disenchantment with her marriage didn't pack any emotional whallop as her character remained remote and robotic.
