For the life of me I do not know why people are trashing this movie. I assume it’s because of assumed expectations of what the movie would be about (I’ve heard people complain about the lack of comedy?) or because of a fundamental misunderstanding of the message. As someone who is not an Adam Sandler fanboy this movie was fantastic. It had suspense, mystery, deep philosophical questions, and a surprisingly wholesome conclusion. One of the best movies I’ve watched recently with a pretty daring original concept that we don’t see too much in films. This movie made me feel things for a terrifying alien spider and I think that says something. If you’re too immature to watch a creature act surprisingly human without it being played off for laughs i can see how you might not enjoy it. I’ve also seen some people complain that the lesson learned at the end was obvious but let me ask you: when you are confronted with a hard truth that confronts a large part of your being do you immediately gain clarity and fix said issue? Of course not, you toil over it endlessly, you deny or deflect, it’s human nature, of course Adam’s character suppresses these feelings because it is uncomfortable and easier to ignore, we don’t face these things often until we are forced to which in this movie that force is Hanuš. It wasn’t so much that he learned an obvious lesson as it was he learned how to navigate a complex issue and realized what the most important things in his life are. A lot of people are bad and they know it, they refuse to change and that’s exactly what is happening with the main character Jakub.
