I hoped this show was going to be like visititing an old friend, catching up on whats new and finding out what they'd been up to since we last spoke. There was supposed to be joy and comfort in this meeting. Actually, it just disappointed and made me kinda sad. I guess I was expecting to see the growth and progress of the characters from the end of the original series over the course of the near decade between shows. What I got instead were characters that in many ways just stagnated, or worse, took steps backwards. ... CAUTION SPOILERS AHEAD: ... ... ... Lorelai and Luke are not married? They've just been living together for years, no kids, no growth of their businesses? In this sense I'm ok with Luke and the diner and his relationship with his daughter (who i would have thought might play a bigger role in the revival). but they finally found each other and then they just... played house, This relationship deserved better. Rory is sleeping around, having affairs, treating men like garbage, has no confidence in her self and is floundering in her career. She's a mess and this is completely uncharacteristic. Why? So Jess could come back in to her life for 12 minutes to turn it all around again? Logan ended thing with Rory back when she graduated because he wanted more than she was willing to give of herself, she had too much to do with her life before settling down. Now he settles for screwing around with Rory and marrying an heiress that mommy and daddy would approve of? Emily still lacks any understanding of who her daughter is despite the progress they had made through the original series. Michel is gay now? and Sookie.... just, what? Even if she didn't get a lot of screen time due to scheduling conflicts her character could have been dealt with better than a two year sabbatical where she was literally eating dirt! What a shame 😞
