I just started watching the series, so slow and boring! The bar the Selena MOVIE set is just way too high, when you're using that as a frame of reference, this series just can't compete. Christian Serratos is a good actress and all, just not the right fit for this part, she just doesn't embody the same spark Selena did. JLo did an AMAZING job of capturing that essence of Selena. Christian Serratos is trying hard enough to try and pass as Texan, much less actually pass for Selena. Ms. Serratos does not have a similar body type and her skin is much fairer than Selena's, another example of Hollyood white-washing. This series is so slow, such that I'm writing this review with the series playing in the background and I definitely haven't missed a thing. I keep skipping ahead hoping it'll get interesting, but I just can't get into it, Christian Serratos isn't a believable Selena, not her fault, just bad casting by a bunch of White Hollywood types. Plus why are they spending sooooo much time on Selena's upbringing? I get they're TRYING (miserably) to be different from the movie, but I feel like it's a long, achingly drawn out (dissapointing) version of the movie. Better luck next time Netflix, next time try having NO white people input on the casting or any other aspect of a Selena project and ya'll will be surprised how good a Selena series COULD BE.
