I don’t know how I offended the author. She was my creative writing professor during my undergrad and I found her work interesting until she blocked me for some random reason. The last thing I commented on TikTok was asking her if her read Immortal Dark is any good because I had a bad experience reading Chloe Gong and her friends’ work. It’s not negativity. It’s an innocent question. Also, I’m done buying her books not because of the content which I enjoyed but the character of the author who I thought was nice at first was very mean to me. I’m selling her books that I bought. She has success but doesn’t mean she’s a nice person. Maybe she doesn’t welcome people who got interested in her work. If our taste in literature doesn’t match, well that’s life. I didn’t like Shingai’s book because it was not my taste. I didn’t think her books are worth my money. I’m not a fan of Afro Surrealism but I like the ideas behind it. She’s so close minded. Consider me not a fan. She did not write Immortal Dark and I made no racist comments or anything because I hate racism as a person of color. I just asked if it’s good because I didn’t like Chloe Gong or her taste. I DNF this work because it was getting overly repetitive in theme. So it’s like a 3/5.
