Overall I think the game falls very short of where it should be. :(
First, credit where credit is due, I think the quest lines are fun and have enjoyed playing them. I also like the graphics and audio is not bad. Game crashes from time to time but hasn’t been too bad for me (really helps to load game rather than quick resume). I also think the guns are pretty cool and look good, though the modding system for them is bad.
Now the bad. The ship building system is terrible, like “did you even test this before release?” bad. To specify, the limitations are ridiculously small, the error codes are very unclear and unhelpful, and worst of all you have no way controlling where ladders or walls/doors get placed on the interior! This results in ships getting maze like interiors for what should be simple, straightforward hallways or ladders.
To make things even worse for the shipbuilding, star-ports have a very limited selections of parts, meaning you will need to travel around to find the parts you need. This by itself isn’t a problem, and to some is actually preferable as its more realistic, but without a way to have parts shipped to you or the ability to store parts to be installed later, it makes getting the parts you need when you need them very difficult. Even if you have a spare ship to travel with, you arnt able to leave a ship in an unfinished state.
And speaking of ships, there doesn’t seem to be much of a point to them. Since you fast travel everywhere, you arnt in the ship very much. Yes there are occasional dog fights and you can focus on accepting ship combat missions, but for so much emphasis on spaceships, you’d think they’d have much more use in game.
I haven’t dabbled much with the outpost builder, but I’ve heard it suffers from similar problems as the ship builder. I have, however, gotten the penthouse in New Atlantis, and was very disappointed. I was expecting it to be pre furnished like the ship compartments, but instead it’s completely empty, lest a kitchen area, and you are given the task of decorating it yourself. Except the recourses needed to make furniture are annoying to get and you are severely limited on building options (ie types of furniture and decor and such). Over all, my luxury apartment looks like a collage kids new studio apartment that they haven’t unpacked into yet. Id rather just stay in the ship.
I could go on but point being that there are many features in this game that are incomplete, unfunctional, or just plain missing. Things that should have definitely been picked up on and corrected/added before release.
Disappointed, not worth the $70 (I would value at $40 or $50), but I will continue the quest lines, and look forward to either dev’s fixing game or mods to become available and have modders fix the game for them LOL.
