After watching Rajkumar Rao and Kriti Sanon in Bareilly ki barfi, I was eagerly waiting for this movie! And yes, I had many expectations from this one, but 10 mins into it, and I regretted my decision beyond limits. It's not that the cast isn't good or the performance isn't great, but it's the poor execution of the script that ruined it for me.
The concept is kind of fresh, with the essence of bollywood in the plot- something which was already clear from the trailers. We have an orphan boy named Dhruv who falls in love with Anya, and fakes a family for her sake - comes in Purushottam Mishra, a drunkard and grumpy old man who used to own a Dhaba and Deepti Kashyap, an old lady living alone in the mountains. These two have their own history (which I found more intriguing and realistic in comparison to the love story of Dhruv and Anya). We also have Shunty, the all-weather friend of Dhruv who can go to any length for his happiness.
All of these characters go through uncertainty, insecurities, heartbreak and betrayal but in the end, all is well and we have a happy, very bollywood style ending!
Now that really isn't a bad thing. The actual bad thing is the chemistry of Rajkumar Rao and Kriti Sanon looks cute on the surface but lacks the depth. Also, the PJ's are quite horrible and unnecessary. From time to time, the flow of the story will feel abrupt and messy with loose ends. The music is good, yes, especially the bg theme for Purushottam and Deepti, but does it make the film enjoyable?
Not at all!
All in all, we had such a stellar starcast and yet, the movie was banal with the potential of a good script and each actor wasted.
