The key drivers to their development was: 1. The enslavement of Africans and Asians. Slave labor helped US and Holland become leading producers cotton and spices respectively. However, the writers try to hide this truth in this book. 2. The introduction of the system of colonialism in Africa and Americas which saw continuation of extreme exploitation of indigenous people and resources.
