Though the scenery was beautiful and fun to watch on the nice large 3D screen; it lacked the magic of the first film when you visited Pandora for the first time.
*** SPOILER ALERT ***
This time the film didn't offer anything new besides introducing us to Jake Sully's family. Then reintroducing us to a former villain in a new "skin" who is brought back to life, wrecking havoc just like in the previous film. Several key factors are left unexplained as well, such as the oxygen tanks... do those ever run out?? Who is the girl's father? Or how does transferring the mind of a dead body to an avatar work? Doesn't that create certain plothole to the story?
However, what really made me dislike this movie is the unnecessary prolonged scenes. Yes, some scenes dragged out just to show off the CGI enhanced scenery but other scenes dragged on just to create suspense, which felt forced... Some of the characters made contradictive decisions, only to later switch their earlier opinions or decisions in an on-off manner without any acknowledgement of the past decisions. Jake Sully's wife is seen being all friendly with Spider, even though she had tried (and almost) killed him in the previous scene... yet everyone is cool about that and acts like that never happened??
In conclusion, the first Avatar film felt based on science-fiction, whereas the sequel seems mostly based on pure fantasy and less on science as the first film. If I am honest, the sequel was a let-down from what I had expected; but I can't blame it for being one of the highest grossing films of all time and one of the most anticipated films of the decade.
If you like films about family, then this is definitely the film you've been waiting for! However, this film could've been replaced with real-human actors instead of blue CGI Avatars and the film wouldn't feel any different.
