The actual gameplay was the kind of polished, energetic and fun experience that we've come to expect from the Call of Duty series.
What killed the experience for me, though, is several technical issues with the PS4 version that i played.
The campaign, while compelling and fun, crashed 3 times partway through the "Going Dark" level, twice deleting or corrupting my autosave data and forcing me to restart from the beginning.
When i finally beat the campaign, the credits state "the story continues in Spec Ops!" Well, I'm going to have to take their word for it. I tried to open Spec Ops, and the Co-op menu displays "installation suspended" and opens a list page for downloadable plugin modules. I downloaded all the required modules for multiplayer and spec ops. It still displayed the error message and would not proceed.
I consulted the internet, and found it's a somewhat common issue with the PS4 version. I followed all the troubleshooting guides, deleting and installing the plugins, no dice. Then deleted savegame data. Nope. Then i deleted and reinstalled the entire game, and all the plugins for campaign, multiplayer, spec ops, Warzone and even Cold War, and still it would not allow me to access beyond the basic campaign. At this point, frustrated, i decided that this compelling-to-play game is too much of a technical dumpster fire for me and since the game with all the updates and addons occupied nearly 1/4 of my entire HDD space, i gave it the boot.
Too bad, i wanted to enjoy this game.
