Extremely well crafted with scrupulous detail of an age when sharks were not feared and their potential for harming humans barely known about. Michael Capuzzo has captured a time of innocence and carefree leisure for Americans fortunate enough to indulge in seaside retreats, all painted wonderfully on the backdrop of the New Jersey coastline in 1916. With moments of clever suspense, the attacks, (when they come) do so after the author has drawn you into an empathy for the victim and their families via meticulous study of who they were and where they came from. The shark too is rendered with care and much thought. A truly excellent read written by a true professional.
