So, I have seen the movie...twice, and wow this cinematic masterpiece is something my 10 year old self would never have thought possible. I have always love the Super Mario bros. series. We played the games, watched the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, all that jazz. I even watched the 1993 film to see how it was, it was bad but in a funny way. This is a great movie, a simply must watch.
So...why am I giving it a 4/5, well I would have to make an analysis.
Movie Itself is a colorful, funny, sad, heart pumping 90 minute film that could have been better, the movie as a whole was great, but rushed, sort of like the Puss in Boots: The last wish, good but to fast to let each scene and set sink in enough. The movie went from one beautifully created area to the next, this continued to the point where you couldn't pay attention to both the plot and the background pieces, or you would miss what's going on. Again, good movie, too fast, 4/5
The music is pretty good, the composition of Mario franchise scores done well, even remade for the movie. Mario, Toad, Bowser, Donkey Kong's themes were done well for each scene, felt fitting, done well, 5/5
The Animation was done superbly, for an Illumination film. The animation quality really shows how much Nintendo really cared for this film and how seriously Illumination took it, 5/5
Now the Characters cast...well I will have to be a bit more harsh in this review. The fact that Chris Pratt got the role and not Charles Martinet is still annoying, but it is acceptable. I can see him doing well in Guardians of the Galaxy, but...not as Mario. He kind of treated it as a joke and as another money making scheme for him. I will say though that it is also acceptable that Charles Martinet got some roles in the film, aka the man in the beginning Pizza Parlor, and Mario and Luigi's dad.
-Inhale- Jack Black as Bowser IS Amazing!!! He did the role so well!!! And that "Peaches" song? Funny as heck!
Then there's Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, now I do like how he did, and his famous laugh. I have no problem with Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, and also because I couldn't think of anyone else who could do the voice so, I like it. Anyway for voice cast, I'd give a 4/5.
Overall, the movie, like any good thing, has its ups and downs, but as a Mario fan, I was very satisfied with the film, so I'd give a 4/5.
Hope this review helps.
