Having played the Fallout games countless times over, and listening closely for any whisper made of a film adaptation, I was thrilled to pieces that it would finally happen in today’s era. Today we crave more and more of a good show, so much so that our culture defines this obsession as “binging”, a term often used to describe a multi-day drug bender that now reflects the quality of a good show.
Well, this isn’t just good, it’s binge worthy and then some.
It’s what myself and every other Fallout player have dreamed of; a completely original story set in the Fallout universe, and we get to start with the Bloody Mess perk.
This is a dark, violent and emotional series with enough humor and romance to even it all out, making sure that every element of good storytelling is there, and that it all takes place in both the Wasteland and the Vault. I was pointing out everything I recognized from the game to my wife, while she asked me if I’d ever played the game before (clearly pointing out that I might be a little obsessed, and she’s not wrong).
And maybe that’s why it was such a good experience for me, because I loved the games so much that I should inherently love anything to go with it. But I watched this show with an enough hesitation to love it, knowing that just because vault boy is on the big screen doesn’t mean it’s going to be good.
But it is, and it’s better than good. It’s everything I’d ever hoped the show would be, and that’s because it was made with passion for both the game and for putting together one hell of a good show.
