This film sells the American Dream in all its fake, depraved, neurotic madness. Lynch is so cynical to it by the end you're left thinking the world of Frank is more realistic and in turn reassuring. Its not a masterpiece. The acting is occasionally clunky, the sets are occasionally overly designed, Lynch's message is occasionally forced. These things are exactly what makes this film outstanding and give great depth and nuance to the film on repeat viewing. Fantastic assembly cast help present the American Dream as the real horror we should run screaming from.
