I have to say that if I were one of the professors in this latest "Professors Tournament," I'd be a little embarrassed for the Jeopardy! staff, not to mention the contestants, to see this title rendered without an apostrophe. "Professors Tournament," a pair of nouns, is a meaningless expression all by itself--and to say that this is only technically so is to denigrate the proper use of language and its punctuation. We should all have had this reinforced for us by Lynne Truss some years ago, courtesy of her excellent book, "Eats. Shoots & Leaves." Even if no one else cares, professors (of all people) like to get these sorts of things right. Let's hear it for a "Professors' Tournament," next time they have one!
