I wish there was an option for zero stars. I truly believe myself to be the biggest fan the Scream franchise has, and this film disappointed me to the point where I can’t even watch the original four without wanting to cry or punch something. Killing off Dewey made me so angry, Scream fans expect to see him in a near-death encounter with Ghostface, but he always prevails! This is a MOVIE, and these new guys are NOT Wes Craven. Who are they to say if Dewey should die? And not only for him to die, but for him to honestly have nothing to live for. I just wish I could get back all the time and emotion I’ve put into these movies through my life, because I’m so truly disappointed. Also, the new main cast felt like a parody of the original, the killers were blatantly obvious! And Billy Loomis’ daughter was a poor excuse for a Sydney replacement—just make the fans happy and give us what we want! Why does it need to be new? Wes left the films how they should have been, why ruin what was so perfect? Ghostface was not the same killer he always has been. Though I was glad to see the gruesomeness this new era brought, the feel of the movie along with killings in broad daylight—not to mention the lack of originality in this whole film- makes me have a new hatred for this franchise for doing exactly what it makes fun of, being meta.
I have so much love for the original cast, and thought most of the new cast deserve applause for they’re performance in the new film. I thought Dylan Minnete’s character was great, Deputy Hicks having a son was very smart. But the way the new movie went about things just didn’t feel like Scream. I know I went a little overboard on this review, but if I’m being honest I got this new kind of ice cream and was out of my lactaid pills so I had to take my anger out on something. But either way, this is how I felt.
