Nathan Dygart

I was browsing on HBO Max and came across this movie. I had never heard of it before. Now I think there was a reason for that. I watched it because I liked a number of the cast members and thought the description sounded interesting. Overall, however, I did not like the movie and was disappointed. The main fault I found with the movie was with its script/plot. There was a plot twist that I did not see coming, but it did not feel like it was at all in keeping with how the movie had gone. It felt like whomever wrote the script had a need to turn one of the characters into a bad guy. And he had to be eaten by an alligator since the movie took place in Florida, no less. The police acted in an incredibly inhumane fashion at the beginning of the movie and yet, by the end, we were supposed to think that they were not so bad. It did not make sense. But honestly, very few people in this movie were likeable. Almost everyone had an ulterior motive of some kind. I like the thriller genre, but this movie did not do it for me.

I liked the movie. I thought it worked well as a live action picture. The cast was talented and diverse. I particularly liked Ariel and Ursula. The seagull was also entertaining. The main songs and plot from the original movie remained intact, but there were also additional songs added in this version. Kids and adults alike will enjoy it.

I am not sure how many stars to give this movie. It is very difficult to rate because I don't think I have seen another movie like it. I definitely have not seen Harrison Ford play a role like this one before. Helen Mirren's character doesn't add much to the film. She is a protective mother but has few lines. Ford's character is determined, opinionated, and out of touch with reality. This last characteristic dramatically hurts his relationship with his family. There are other people he doesn't get along with, too. I kind of liked his character in the beginning. He seemed adventurous and atypical. However, as the movie continued, he became more and more difficult to listen to and relate to. There is also some disagreement between Ford and a minister. Each has his own opinions about morality, and the truth probably is that they are both wrong. Neither of them is moral. I enjoyed the movie Witness a lot more. Peter Weir directed both movies, and Ford also starred in both.
