Wonderful film. Ingrid Bergman's chracter makes the classic professional mistake of falling in love (projecting her animus) onto the handsome and damaged hero, Gregory Peck.
She is very lucky in that through hard work and faith she appears to have cured him so they appear to be set to live happily ever after. Huge amount of work on her part, seems to me this is the major fantasy of a classic Narcissist - that a mother archetype is able to cure him.
Yes he is shown to be a 'good' man, dont want to be too cynical. The problem for me is that she is stuck in that responsible role and he has now got used to being the centre of her world.
That's the onesidedness of their relationship. Wonderful cameo of what appears to be CG Jung as Professor Brulov. And despite my cynicism I hope it works out for them.
