If you enjoy MMORPGs, then you should definitely try GW2. The only thing you stand to lose is the purchase price of the game. No subscription is required to play. New content is added on a regular basis, and is free as well. There is an in-game currency called "gems" that can be used to purchase additional items, such as various skins, additional inventory slots, and new story "chapters". There are two ways to purchase gems: using the coins you accumulate playing the game, or with real money. However, no real advantage is gained by these items and are not required to complete the game. From time to time, world add-on packs are released, and these do have to be purchased in order to play the additional content.
Being an MMORPG, playing with others in large parties is common. But if you are like me and hate playing with others, this game can be played solo as well. Except for a handful of inconsequential NPCs, all characters have fully voiced dialog, including your own. Even better, the voice acting is pretty good. The large open world is beautiful and exotic. There are numerous battle and crafting classes to choose from. Equippable weapons and armor differ depending on your class. Various companions are available to accompany you and assist you in battle.
All-in-all, there are many worse ways to waste your time and money. I highly recommend this game.
