I thought the fillm was very weak for various reasons. It relies on swearwords in letters for its humour something that might appeal to a child. The historical relevancy is implausible, there was one person of Indian descent and one black in a small town when there were only around 220,000 in the whole of the UK in 1920 which had a population of 41 million. The police were depicted as bumbling self seekers relying on 'hearsay' not detailed police work and I doubt this was true, even in 1920. Hand writing analysis was used in evidence in the UK by the late 19 century so by 1920 why would it have been rejected. A terrible film and I don't recommend it.

I saw it a few years ago, it is a fantastic film, quirky, great music and a complex plot that both surprised and delighted.
