So much schlock, so little time. I normally don’t watch Hallmark type movies because I think they’re often vapid and unrealistic. I gave it a chance because of the lead actor from “This is us”. I really didn’t see much in the way of character differences between this show and that show. I question whether a successful writer would be that good looking and toned (how does that happen when his main focus is on sitting in a room and writing a series of books).
Further, no explanation of what kept he and his Mother apart (and why the apathy toward her). He didn’t even show any emotion when he learned she died. I never understood how the diary he claimed was his mothers, suddenly became the nanny’s, (how long does it take to read the inside cover of a diary?). Why did he just happen to be carrying it around? I also didn’t believe he had NO memories of Noel that he could share with Rachel. None? Really? Not one?
I found the female lead hanging around for really no apparent reason. Good grief, go home and call or text if you want answers. I thought they tried way too hard to make the female lead perfect (perfect voice, fluent in three languages, perfect teeth, perfect adoptive family). I even felt the Christmas carolers were waaay to professional sounding to be real.
It was a way too neat resolution with his father (because 35 years of anger is gonna disappear in a single afternoon - right). They also spent waaay too much time NOT freezing in a non running car.
Of course, one of the most egregious sins was going to bed with him and then abandoning him (he seemed to have no immediate emotional reaction to this experience).
But I think the worst was when he goes to see her mom, but she doesn’t. I mean, she has the name and location of her birth mother…but what, did she lose interest in meeting her? Oh, and let’s not forget that she just shows up in the end with a smile - no explanations, no character resolution. What a terrible ending.
On the plus side, I liked Bonnie Bedelia and the dog.
