Guillermo Del Toro did what Disney could NEVA! This is the best. The symbolism, dialogue, hidden and not so hidden meaning, etc. This was a masterpiece. It had everyone I know in tears. I did an analysis on this somewhere else, but I won't post here because I don't want to speak on things when some might have not watched. One thing that was done so well is the theme of death. I was glad Guillermo didn't water down the reality of death. He treated all audience members(despite age) the same. He didn't "dumb" death down. He made the audience feel capable of understanding death no matter how old the are. We have a society that understands death is inevitable yet lives life carelessly. Instead of Gepetto and Sebastian teaching Pinocchio,In this film Pinocchio teaches Gepetto and Sebastian. Pinocchio's innocence throughout the film melts your heart. You will see the different types of "father figures" in the film. Instead of the saintly Gepetto Disney put on us, this Gepetto was a drunk who is a weak and defeated man begging for society's approval. Towards the end he learns a valuable lesson! as we all did. This film is stellar! Disney and Pixar could NEVER! this film is for all ages and all cultures, religions, everyone! You have to see it.
