She tried to stuff too many important issues into the book instead of exploring one or two issues well. It jumps away from main theme so often, it lacks continuity. I don't think this book should have been selected for the book club.

It was just fair. I was turned off by the totally unnecessary and graphic details of a bear being hit by a car. It added nothing to the story other than to be disturbing
I found it slow moving. Not an earth shattering debut.
