I saw this movie on opening night - Nov 30th. The crowd at the Y/D Cineplex was relaxed (thankfully!), which suited me because I didn't want to be interrupted by people singing and dancing in the theatre; I was there to watch the film. We did, however, complete a successful mute challenge and we all laughed at the anticipated moments we had seen on social media while the tour was ongoing. The film was great: Beyoncé showcased the performances of all tracks from Renaissance, as well as some other show-stopping moments, such as her Savage duet with Megan Thee Stallion, Diana Ross singing happy birthday to Beyoncé, the dance break with Blue Ivy, the tribute to the late Tina Turner, and an opening set of two ballads from her first two albums, an interesting choice for an otherwise dance-heavy album and tour. As always, Beyoncé is very selective in what she wants you to know and understand, and this film showcased the process of building the show, with a sprinkling of some behind the scenes moments with her family, revelations about vocal surgery and knee surgery, a proclamation that her voice will always be the core of her brand and that she doesn't need to dance that hard any more. If Beyoncé did, in fact, spend night and day in the editing room to produce the film, the result is quite impressive. Clips from the various shows are sewn together expertly, which recounts the many different fashion choices throughout the tour. I'm hoping the film comes to streaming in 2024 because I will definitely watch it again.
