This is definitely not the show for first time or casual Rick and Morty viewers or people who don't watch anime. Unless you've watched every single episode of Rick and Morty, you won't have any idea what's going on with the anime. So unless you plan on rewatching the entire original series, you'll very easily will get lost watching this. My main issue with this show is that even by Rick and Morty standards pacing of the story is all over the place. Way too many random events and characters keep happening with no explanation or context, at least not yet. That all said I'll keep watching it.
The thing to keep in mind is that this show knows it's an anime and that's what it is delivering in it's story telling. It's definitely not episodic, but very plot driven. I would say this anime is for the Rick and Morty super fans, which I am, it's showing us the show we love in a different perspective and context. More story, less comedy .
Another way to think of this show is as the Rick and Morty adventures off-screen of the parent show and comics.
