As it stands, this is a 3.5 star game.
There is a lot of good, a lot of eh, and a little bit of bad. The good...The physics based trick system is cool, feels more realistic, and you feel equally as in control as you do not. Much more control over the board than skate, but that just takes some getting used to. The game falls as it is in the way tricks perform, and how it feels overall. The city is dull and lifeless, and it feels empty (it is). Sometimes tricks will land awkwardly, but that could be my fault too, as there is a steep learning curve on the controls. I like the controls more, but it takes some thought and practice. The game offers a mega rank, and has some tranny areas, but there is no good way to perform any transition tricks, and there are currently no body flips of any sort in the game. This game seems like it will take time to grow, and will need the user to practice to perform, as it is hard to be consistent in tricks at first. The ollies are also super floaty sometimes, and the game doesn’t offer a very good way to learn the game, you just have to play and have some prior skateboarding knowledge. I think if they can add some a.i. or an online mode, maybe traffic, and a few more maps with dope spots, along again with transition skating, this game can be a 5 star, long living game like skate. As it stands now...is it worth $40? I would say if you are eager enough for it, or are going to play it regardless, yes. If you’re expecting a super easy, simple, and story based game, this isn’t for you but I would wait for it to drop in price.
