Kabir Singh is a movie that should not have been made, but inevitably was.... and its success is quite unsettling.
Put simply, despite being the school's top student and a well accomplished surgeon, Kabir is a tyrant. When Preeti catches his eye on campus, he impulsively and unilaterally decides that she will become 'his girl'. He begins dictating where she sits in class, who she can be friends with, what she should study, who can talk to her, and where she sleeps - and that's only the beginning of this film!
The worst part is that the movie tries to play off his misogyny and violence as romance and ultimately rewards him in the end for it. The cinematography and music isn't bad, but that doesn't absolve this movie of its sins (and the damage it has done to the minds of young viewers).
Indian cinema, be better...
