Really really good, I had seen the trailer for this months ago, forgot about it and I wanted to watch a movie and this popped up. I was thinking "Odenkirk in a John Wick esque movie?" I saw the director was the guy behind Hardcore Henry and I had to watch it. Odenkirk absolutely crushes it, not only does he provide great acting because hes Odenkirk but he sells the character really well (hes also funny in the movie) and feels like a perfect casting choice despite being a guy you would never expect to play a Wick like character. First of all, Odenkirk plays Hutch, a normal guy that has a boring, unfulfilling life and his wife doesnt really love him anymore. So it is like John Wick but not John Wick. He has a family, John doesnt, has (had) a really boring life, John doesnt, he takes an absolute beating, John doesnt, hes always tired, John isnt so much, hes rusty at the beginning, John isnt, he has a good build up and slow reveal of his past, while John is immediately a god and we just know hes the "Bogeyman" and what that meant.
One of my favorite scenes other than the fighting scenes was a scene in a tattoo shop and a veteran in there saw Hutchs tattoo and just thanks Hutch for his service and walks away because he knows Hutch could crush his skull in just based on the tattoo. The other characters were underwhelming other than RZA and Lloyd, the villain was pretty lame and boring but I did enjoy his karaoke hobby.
It has really really good action and other than the end is somewhat convincing. He beats up some guys and one of the guys after the fight lost like half his teeth and asked his buddy "is it bad" which made it feel more real. I just really enjoyed how its not like John Wick, it definitely makes itself something different and you can tell that its different. The action is different, the characters and backstory is different. The only similarities are they have gold in their basement, theyre both people that you dont want to mess with, they both mess with Russians and while John gets back into the assassin life because of his dog, Hutch does it because of a kitty cat bracelet (but not really, it was just a nice excuse because he misses the life)
So yeah watch the movie, it was great
