A return to form. Plenty of reviewers out there will tell you that Metallica are not what they were, and that’s a good thing. There’s lots to keep the diehards happy and all the obvious staples are still in place Kirk and his Wah Wah pedal? Check. Lars nearly keeping time? Check. Rob. Whiskey drinking warlord finger playing ninja? Check. James. Consistent voice and relevant lyrics? Check. It’s undeniably Metallica but for every granite hard riff there’s a subtlety like a vocal harmony. If you love Kill ‘em all or still live in the shadow of Cliffs flares or still complain the Newsteads bass was non existent on AJFA or even think that Megadeth are more metal then I’m sure you’ll find something to gripe about. If you’re open to the sheer excitement of a new ‘Tallica record you might just enjoy it!
