This movie was required watching when I was stationed in Wurzburg,Germany in 1969. I was assigned to this same unit of the 3d Inf Division. Although I was in the same unit albeit 24 years later, the pride of being in this “Marne Division” was omnipresent. We all heard of his tragic death in 1971 in a plane crash when he was a reporter at the time. I have seen his star on the sidewalk in Fort Worth “Stockyard District”. Cute movie with one of comedy's best actors, Peter Sellers.This movie shows the life of a simple minded introverted servant serving his master for most of his adult life until his master dies and he is left to fare for himself in the outside world. When this individual name Chance becomes the victim of a vehicle pedestrian accident, the wealthy wife of a prominent businessman who was in the car that struck Chance decides to take him home to recover. The rest of the movie is full of double entendres and misleading conversations making people believe Chance is a worldly and intelligent thinker of Politics. One of Sellers best roles and Shirley MacLaine was excellent. Melvin Douglas and Jack Warden ask leading questions to Chance making them believe that he is some sort of Political Pundit.
