I hated this series so much that I still find it infuriating that I got sucked in and then felt somehow obligated to watch all 6 excruciating seasons. That a cast of no fewer than 4 legendary actors would participate in such a relentlessly tasteless exercise in hyperbole made me feel betrayed by and embarrassed for them; this is how a quartet of iconic octogenarians were willing to taint their formidable legacies? I have never fast-forwarded past so many hackneyed, overheated and repetitive conversations in my life, not to mention the frequently cringeworthy subject matter ( and let me be clear: I am FAR from ever being considered prudish or homophobic; I am a gay, middle-aged woman with an urban, liberal background and a theatrical career). Don’t be fooled by the inexplicably positive reviews or you’ll find yourself sacrificing a week’s worth of time you’ll never get back, your admiration and affection for Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlinson forever damaged.
