The three Park brothers grew up fighting physically with each other until they realized one day that everyone's punches grew so strong that it could seriously hurt them. Donghoon, the middle brother, became a structural engineer of a big company. This is a story about people that are imperfect and yet know how to stand strong together. The main female character, Ji-Ahn, is the most wounded of them all.
The compassion and camaraderie shown in this drama is commonly known as 'Jung' in Korea. In westernized modern Korea, Jung is often belittled and forgotten. My Mister (나의 아저씨) attempts to shift our attention to this old, connected feeling of small villages and succeeds in my opionion. My heart was definitely warmed and ached by the fantastic storytelling despite some minor flaws that made me skip through some of the sections.
It's also interesting to note that there are some parallels between the fictional character Lee Ji Ahn and the actress Lee Ji Eun who played the character. Childhood poverty, living with grandma and a brother, experiencing discrimination and the similarity in names all affected my viewing as if it was not as fictional as it is real for Lee Ji Eun. Many people pick her performance in My Mister as the best so far in her acting career.
