I cannot express my utter disappointment in this movie. While I have been a huge fan of the original 1984 Drew Barrymore version, not to mention the original book as well (both of which were very similar), this version does not live up to the value of the story.
This is just another disappointment in another remake of a Stephen King classic, such as Pet Semetary and It Chapter Two (Chapter One nailed it). What makes it worse is that it does not have the same feel of the storyteller and tried to make it more horror than anything else.
While Ryan Kiera Armstrong was absolutely great in the part of Charlie, the other actors and the overall storyline completely destroys her role in this movie. Zac Efron who is proving himself a capable actor, had a story that destroyed his role of Charlie's father. While there were some scenes that I felt would amplify the original story - such as the alienation of the other kids at school which could have led to a more stronger reason for her friendship with John the Friendly Orderly - was just taken away completely. A vital part of the story and reason for the ending just lost to another ending that is a complete ruin to the movie. Not to mention the lack of this and the overall change to the last showdown just cemented my complete dislike of it.
Hopefully you will have not read Stephen King's Firestarter or have seen the original, because I would advise any fan of them to stay far, far away from this atrocity.
