Gripping from beginning to (sort of) end. Peter Parker... I mean Andrew Garfield nails the role, from his fervent prayers to getting caught praying at awkward times. And most of all, he conveys the pain of learning the quietly concealed, dark truth about a thing you love with all your heart, and finding it will just as easily create monsters and victims as saints.
His more experienced coworker nearly steals the show. I clapped for his awesome sass several times over the series.
I love how they got so many details down, from the excessive brick in the homes to those fancy velvet chairs with the gold curve on top... wow I can still feel how luxurious those felt when useing the RS room after sitting on the metal or plastic chairs in Primary...
This was a raw reflection both of my own past growing up LDS in the 80s and 90s, and a dramatic exploration of how those "put in place" by the church's teachings are greatly harmed by it. For ages I have struggled to explain, first to myself, and later to others, why certain teachings in the church rubbed me wrong. Seeing the shelf cracking in Jeb's mind is beautifully relatable.
For me it was secondly that I did not even know the names of Joseph's other wives. How could we not study them in church if God wanted him to marry them? (Now I know that explaining to the Mia Maids about Joseph's 14 year old bride would be a tough sell). But before that I stumbled on the Adam-God doctrine Brigham Young taught. That was a shock!
