I'm really struggling with this book. It's not the premise; that intrigued me. I just kept finding myself getting irritated by the constant jumps in perspective, flitting into one person's head and then another. It made me dizzy and irritated trying to keep up with each person and their point of view. Perhaps that was intentional, but it felt like sloppy writing to me. That view is only aided by a couple of typos I spotted, plus the introduction to Ruth's name in the narrative before anyone ever mentions it. I really would have preferred the suspense to be kept in check by not divulging through the narrative hopscotch that the characters were exactly who they said they were. No mystery in that, which means all suspense is directed to this event in which no real answers are provided. As for the social issue undercurrents, the patronizing view of G.H. and Ruth very much annoyed me. I'm glad Amanda and Clay were honest about it in their own assessments of their failings, but the description from the author makes me think he is the one who has the problem.
