I'm very disappointed that Property Brothers shows (and similar) make no effort to "recycle, reuse, repurpose" any of the things they remove from houses they renovate! In particular they bash out perfectly good (if dated) kitchen cabinets, bathroom fixtures and appliances when if taken out properly could be reused by others and kept out of the landfills thus reducing the impact on the environment. They also make no attempt to separate metal from wood, etc so these can be recycled properly.
And they grew up in (and do much of their filming) in Vancouver! I don't know the details, but when I see houses being taken down in North Vancouver, contractors are required to separate gyprock/drywall, metal, wood from each other so they can be recycled.
As their contribution to the environment, I'd like to see the Property Brothers (and similar) take the lead and model environmental "best practices" in renovating homes and talk about environmental best practices on their shows.
