Having lived through the war as a child near London, and also my husband who lived even nearer,(married nearly 68 years) we remember it well. The nightly raids from the German bombers, being brought down from my bed and we sat in the cupboard under the stairs with a candle and the cat...too young to know what it was all about....but happy when we could have fireworks again on bonfire night! My father served for 2 years in the first world war in the trenches in France and our Granddaughter has just come out of the army herself. The bomber squadrons had terrible casualties not only because of the relatively large Lancaster crews but having to weather the constant barrage of fire from the ground and sometimes the German fighter planes. Our brave bomber squadrons will never be forgotten and the film was excellent with a superb cast - lest we forget we have the DVD and watch this regularly.

Storylines very good, but acting - ha ha - I despair sometimes having to watch actors who appear to be so 'wooden' these days showing no emotion whatsoever - aren't any of the cast for some of these TV shows taught how to act and speak clearly with at least a little emotion?

The first two series were wonderful - something entirely different - brilliant casting, but now the third series is being shown on TV - with Jason Connery - and oh dear, he is hopeless! So wooden, and doesn't suit the role at all! Will not watch any more.
