It has the same style of humor and lightness of the original with an underlying darkness that looks to out-evil the original film's Bavmorda.
The characters are likeable and the roles are well-acted. Warwick Davis' Willow is older, wiser and a bit grumpier. His performance is creaky to start - nearly cringey, but he finds his pace quickly and flows.
If you haven't seen the film I recommend watching it before starting the series. There's a cheekiness to the writing of both film and series that can feel off-putting if you aren't prepared for it, and watching the film first will help with that.
Willow is an enjoyable series that stays faithful to the feel and spirit of the original. I greatly look forward to watching the rest of the season.
