Scott missed an opportunity to make an epic movie, rich in historical facts and characters, but chose instead to focus on Napoleon’s abysmal love-making abilities and Josephine’s infidelities. The battle scenes were beautifully filmed, the costuming was wonderful, but the characters were rather flat and the storyline muddled.
