Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a poor excuse for an Indiana Jones movie. It's a rehash of all the same old tropes and clichés from the previous films, with none of the charm or excitement that made those movies so great. The movie starts with Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) being called out of retirement to find the Dial of Destiny, a powerful artifact that can control the future. Along the way, he teams up with a young woman named Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge), who is also searching for the Dial. The two of them travel to various exotic locations, including China, India, and Egypt, and they encounter all sorts of dangerous obstacles along the way. But even though there's plenty of action and adventure, the movie never really feels exciting or suspenseful. The main problem with the movie is that it's just too predictable. You can pretty much guess what's going to happen next at every turn. And the characters are all one-dimensional and uninteresting. Harrison Ford is still game as Indiana Jones, but he's clearly past his prime. And Phoebe Waller-Bridge is wasted in a role that's little more than a damsel in distress. The movie also suffers from some terrible CGI effects. The Dial of Destiny itself looks like something out of a low-budget SyFy movie. Overall, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is a disappointing and uninspired entry in the franchise. It's a movie that should have never been made. The fact that this movie managed to be released in such a state is perplexing. It lacks any genuine heart or emotion, attempting to rush through the intricate buildup and payoff that Marvel accomplished over a decade with their Multiverse concept, all condensed into a single film. It's a futile effort that falls flat. Despite these glaring flaws, there are a few redeeming aspects to mention. Firstly, Michael Keaton's return as Batman is a nostalgic treat, and his portrayal is handled relatively well until the unnecessary decision to kill off his character twice, with both attempts failing to evoke any genuine emotional response. Secondly, Sasha Calle's performance as Superwoman is a standout, akin to the caliber of Henry Cavill's portrayal of Superman. Her evident love for the character shines through, making her a welcome addition for future movies. Thirdly, Ben Affleck's Batman finally gets a chance to shine. Despite being given lackluster material in previous films, he seizes the opportunity to showcase why he is an excellent Batman, fully embodying the essence of the character. Lastly, the score of the movie deserves praise, particularly the return of Keaton's Batman theme, which adds a touch of awesomeness to the overall experience. While these few positive elements provide some relief amidst the disappointment, they are not enough to salvage the film from being categorized as a poor movie.
