It was Interstellar and Gravity put together, except a little better than Gravity but worse than Interstellar. At the end of the day it feels cheap because you feel as though you've seen this story before. Ending felt unfulfilling, and a few plot paths I felt needed more attention or explanation. Story just felt flat, with no real development or satisfying peak. The film is slow paced to what you're hoping is a big pay off at the end, and than nothing. Like slow sensual foreplay with your partner building up to them falling asleep on you, you're just left unsatisfied. Really hate this, because I this Brad Pitt is a phenomenal actor, but even his character isn't given very much range to experiment with. Visually & cinematically it is really good, in some ways it felt like there were Kubrick influences, mainly the interior sets. Some scenes resembed Ducan Jones's approach in "Moon". The mixed color palettes where fitting from "The Martian", "Mad Max", & "Moon". So basically that is the overall feeling of the film. That it's just a rehashed mash-up of a lot of other films in both pacing and visuals, with no real satisfying plot twist. It was like watching NatGeo or the movie "The Abyss" if they found absolutely nothing in the water, and worked than just went home. If you have Daddy issues, because your Dad walked out on your family and never came back, than you might like or connect with the movie I guess. 🤔
