Look, this film isn't bad because it's "woke" - if you're too emotionally frail to bear a movie with a same sex couple most things on TV are probably going to drive you into a fit of rage - it's bad because it's just poorly done. The melodrama is goofy and cringey, the characters aren't particularly compelling or well-written, and worst of all, the budget is so low that there really isn't a much of an on-screen "disaster" to speak of. None of the relationships are properly explained or resolved, certain plot points make no sense, and the climax - the town sinking into a hole! - is obscured by smoke to the point where you can't even tell what happened or what the damage is.
If you rage about everything you don't like being "woke", this movie is not for you. But if you actually can watch a movie without your fragile, myopic worldview blinding you to things like plot, character development, and the fun that can be had with a good disaster payoff, this movie also is not for you. I heard it won a ton of awards and was excited to see it and the more I think about it, the worse it gets. It's just not because I care one way or another if the lead is a woman or someone dates someone else of the same sex.
