This movie is not for people looking for an action film or people who don’t understand the depths of one’s emotions or struggles. Ethan Hawke gives a stellar performance (again) and we find ourselves immersed in his humble attempt to survive in a world that bears no resemblance to his pre-incarceration life. I saw a sweet man who was looking for something to bring meaning to his life. Viewers who were disappointed were quick to point out all the deficits, ie why didn’t he get arrested for breaking parole or for kidnapping, etc. To those people I say you missed what the movie was really about and deprived yourself of all the good feels it offered. I’ll probably watch it again sometime when I need to be reminded of how much good there still is in life.
