I never leave reviews for films, but this film deserves one..
from the way you start to feel for John, to him then relapsing and going back to his old ways was fantastic - giving him the unachievable hope to be better that he gave to others with his traps, beautiful.
The traps themselves were .. ok, it gave the viewer a excited moment of hope for the victims, but then ruined it as they ran out of time - it was just frustrating, maybe once is passable, but all of the deaths being achievable if they had 5 seconds more is quite frankly boring, and Gabriella’s wasn’t even really deserved as she got punished for being addicted to drugs, fine, but John was punishing her for leading him on.. which again is fine, but didn't match the brutal trap she had, of which annoyed me even more as she didn't have a timer to see how much time she had before the radiation got more extreme, it just all happened way too fast. The other traps were bleak, Valentina’s ( the leg one ) was achieved and she was just waiting for the bone marrow to dissolve, 2 seconds more and she would have been alive, but no, she died for .. dramatic effect ? Mateo’s was the brain one, interesting, he managed it and was just waiting for his brain to dissolve, again 2 seconds more and he would have been able to live, but no, he died, which was boring, only good part was the style of the mask matched the statue he showed at the start.. cool.
The flip of power between John and Cecelia was interesting, for about 5 minutes as then she didn’t have anything else interesting to say until she grabbed the little boy ( some very nice foreshadowing happened with him ) then she grabbed the bag full of receipts and her and her boyfriends timer started, again nice play of action with her boyfriend being a fake survivor of the treatment, the tear gas was fine and also good foreshadowing of her boyfriends death, but then it was plain, the gas stopped but she was still locked in, being able to breathe while her body rots.. lovely.
You could figure out the plot twist within 20 minutes, then just left waiting until it happened.
Also I personally didn’t understand why the place was framed like a break-in but that could just be a me thing.
Overall this film is a 6/10 I understand what they were trying to do with it, and there were some nice plot elements and action elements but truly it felt rushed and boring unfortunately, fine for a watch, but you don’t feel like you would need to watch it again, as you leave feeling annoyed and disappointed.
