They made bad casting decisions, arbitrarily changed things, introduced people they didn't need to and shortchanged a ton of characters. This was mostly flash and no substance. The thropters looked great, but that was about all I was impressed by. Lady Jessica is forgettable, and Stilguar should have switched with Keynes. Music isn't great (What happened Hans? How much did they leave on the cutting room floor?), is okay, but they obviously focused on it looking good over everything else.
There was little acting or story. If a character dies, did you feel any connection? Did you feel that the story was setup in a way that you understood what was going on? (They failed here, and when Paul becomes the Kwisatz Haderach, don't expect anything interesting cause they don't seem to know how to make these characters relatable, sadly.)
I understand that some people read the book (yes, read all of them), but this shouldn't be solely for those who have already read the books.
I will be surprised if they make the 2nd film, hopefully they have already started, because if the 2nd films future is based on this, it dies with this film.
(Was slightly disappointed that they didn't state the litany of fear once completely so they could easily reference it later, but they seemed to have decided to stay away from the philosophical side of Dune, which is a shame and a disappointment. Mind you, it is also the reason why this is such a hard thing to bring to the screen, but to me they have failed in this attempt.)
