This show is both incredibly heartfelt and emotional and brilliantly witty. It’s a masterful take on the human condition; on grief, on loneliness, on connection, on life. The characters are individual novels unto themselves. Yes, Ricky Gervais has somewhat dark humor but if you “can’t get through” this series or walk away rating it negatively, you’ve completely missed the point here. In fact you’re probably not very tapped in to life in general. “After Life” is painful and hysterical in all of the right ways. And what you also learn is that Ricky Gervais is about as authentic as they come. Not to mention he has incredible taste in music. Stellar soundtrack.
